Located in the
picturesque fishing village of Five Islands on
the Island of Georgetown in Mid-Coast Maine, this charming Greek Revival
cape has just been completely renovated and is available for weekly
rental. Built in the 1840's, it was the homestead of Almon L. Marr and his wife Clara (Lewis) Marr and their five children. The house had left family ownership, but was purchased by Almon and Clara's great, great grandson, an accomplished boatbuilder and craftsman, in 1998. It was he who completely restored the homestead, finding the striking Greek Revival details from the mid-nineteenth century under attempts to modernize the structure. Artifacts of Mr. Marr's career as first mate on many coasting schooners remain in the home today. The home retains the original wide pine floor and has been tastefully decorated to provide a cozy atmosphere. The kitchen includes a gas stove and dishwasher. Gear to prepare a lobster feast are also at hand. In addition, a gas grill is available. The dining and living area amenities include a futon and sleep sofa to accommodate extra guests as well as a large dining table. The two bedrooms, located upstairs, each have full-size beds with linens included. The full bath, also upstairs, includes a washer & dryer. A generous supply of hot water, provided by a modern heater, is always available. This home is steps away from one of the most sought-after lobster shacks on the Maine coast yet is only 40 minutes away from shopping in Freeport, including LL Bean's flagship store. Scenic Reid State Park is a short 10 minute drive away. Visit historic Bath, a quick twenty minute trip up Route 127 known for its heritage as well as its large variety of stores and shops. Portland is one hour south. Rate is $975 per week. Pets are welcome with an additional $200 deposit. Check in is at 3 PM and checkout is at 10AM on Saturday. Until confirmed, rates are subject to change without notice. For more details, please call Jerry Jones a 207-371-2011 or email him at jjones@midcoast.com
